David Allan Ballas, a native of Richmond, studied Design and Architecture at Virginia Commonwealth University, and graduated with a BFA in Interior Design in 1985. He has been an active professional in the greater Richmond area for over twenty years.

After graduation, David worked in the Design Studio at the Chesterfield Towne Centre branch of Richmond’s fabled Miller & Rhoads Department Stores. He also spent several years in commercial design with the firm of Robert Ledford Associates, and with Central Fidelity Bank’s design department. He later spent three years as an associated designer with Robert Rentz Interiors.

David has operated as an independent Interior Designer since 1992, specializing in eclectic residential interiors, and well as contract design. He enjoys taking various styles, colors and textures and molding them into harmonious environments for his clients. He is always extremely careful to insure that he does not impose designs, but that the completed interiors reflect and express the client’s personal taste. His original signature designs include one-of-a-kind custom rugs, lamps, and pillows.

David’s work won two awards at the 2006 International Window Coverings Expo, and was featured in the May 2006 issue of Window Fashions magazine. His library in the 2006 Richmond Symphony Designer House was chosen to be nationally published in Beautiful Southern Homes, a Meredith group publication. It was also featured in the November-December 2006 issue of Housetrends, as well as in Richmond Magazine, the Midlothian Gazette and Richmond Times-Dispatch online at www.timesdispatch.com. His work has also been featured in Style Weekly and in several Times-Dispatch special print publications.

David was one of only four interior designers invited to have a featured vignette in the Richmond Home Interiors Showcase in April 2007. David's designs have also been a highlight in the 1999 Petersburg Symphony Designer House and the 2000 and 2002 Richmond Symphony Designer Houses, and will be seen again in 2008 Richmond House.

His clients reside in Richmond, as well as in Montpelier, Fredericksburg, Stafford and White Stone (Virginia), Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Seattle and Naples (Florida). He is a member of the International Furnishings and Design Association (IFDA) and has taught introduction to Interior Design classes at John Tyler Community College.
